Delhi – 6

Expectations were very high… of course they would be. After all the last movie by the director was RANG DE BASANTI which went on to become a cult film! That is definitely an incredible feat to follow. But I guess whoever watched Delhi 6 will definitely say that they were left a tad disappointed. It was a fine movie don’t get me wrong on that but somewhere down the line you almost feel cheated while watching the movie coz you go to the theatre expecting an entertainment sort of movie. After all the promo song was Masakali which was full of energy & almost makes it look like a fun movie to watch.

I wish the same energy was translated to the entire movie. But it was a rather slow movie except for maybe the last 15 minutes or so. More than an entertainer it was sort of a movie with a moral. Not surprising coming from a director whose previous movie was on similar lines. Rakyesh Mehra’s movie’s focus on the youth. He believes that the youth of our nation can change the corrupt system of our country. And he goes to great lengths to show that in his movies and this one was no different. I thought Abhisheks performance was amazing. He makes you believe in his character. He brings a certain coolness to his character. The biggest disappointment for me was Sonam Kapoor. Not her performance, it was superb but the length of her role. She was just used to get the audience into the theatres with the promo song. You yearn for more of her in the movie because the screen lights up everytime she appears.

All in all it was an ok sort of movie which you can’t watch more than once for sure. If the story line was a bit pacy or some more humor was added along the with the drama then it would’ve been better. I would give it 3 stars.

Music & Lyrics

music_and_lyrics1Valentines Day was such a bore despite of all the hype about the pink chaddis , the moral policing & what not. So at the end of the day I decided “why not at least watch a nice light hearted romantic movie” After all what better day to watch a romantic movie than on Valentines Day? .So I looked through my movie collection & found MUSIC & LYRICS, which I’ve been meaning to watch since a long time but somehow never managed to do so. So I decided that the day had finally come.
2007_music_and_lyrics_0031As you all know it’s a movie starring Hugh Grant & Drew Barrymore. The movie opens with a hilarious music video of the catchy number POP. It’s supposed to be a pop boy band from the nineties of which Hugh Grant is a member who call themselves POP singing their hit number POP he he… It’s all that simple! Right after the number the scene shifts to the present day where Grant is a “has been” coz the lead singer of the band ditched the group many years ago to launch a multimillion dollar solo career. It now leaves Grant trying to promote events, music albums of the new generation willing to compromise all his ideologies & passion for his music. Drew Barrymore is his “plant girl” who has problems of her own involving her past love life, who eventually turns his lyricist. Brad Garrett (from the EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND fame) plays the role of Grants agent who supports his career no matter what but at the same time pushing him to do small time events to bring in the cash flow.
a_music_and_lyrics_12As always Hugh Grant is brilliant playing his part, you can’t help but smile at his straight faced humor & his Elvis styled hip shaking dance is just too funny. Drew Barrymore is delightful & so refreshing to watch in every scene. I wish Brad Garrett who plays Grants agent had a bigger role coz he’s one of my favourites. For me the song “Way back into love” was simply amazing. It’s the core of the movie since the movie revolves round the making of the song & ends with the same. You got to listen to it for sure if you haven’t done that already. The movie actually ends even before you know it & somehow you are left wanting more. Its not a masterpiece by any stretch of imagination but the wonderful combination of words & melody (as Drew puts it in then movie) will make you smile. Don’t wait for a Valentines Day to watch it
